Level: Intermediate Recorded in: 3ds Max 2011 Files used: areadownloads.autodesk.com Description: This project is about modeling building fronts or facades. It uses images that serve both as references and textures. It's a powerful technique where you only model what you need or see, much like they build movie sets. This Part 1 movie shows you how to do some prep work on the reference images in an image editing application prior to modeling in 3ds Max.

Just a demonstration on very basic modeling in 3ds max. This video is super basic, so intermediate/advanced users will find this video extremely corny. Visit jayxiong.com to see my body of work. Thanks for viewing! **note... when I compressed the video, it somehow got squashed horizontally. The original is actually widescreen.

Tutorial info is below - written steps explaining everything in the video. --------------------------------------------------------------- Second Video (shading basics) here - www.youtube.com Third/Final Part Video (texturing) here - www.youtube.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hi~ First, someone asked me about the line-art. The primary drawing, the line-art i've used, was done with hand drawn inking. Lires from deviantart made it. I make my own line-arts with the pen tool, it's exact and easy to use. It's easier than inking by hand like Lires did, but you gain that with experience which i think he does since he/she's awesome, so if you practice by hand, it'll be easier with time, for you too. If you want to scan a drawing and use it to make a line-art, you scan it and import it to Photoshop where you use the Pen Tool, it's right above the Text Tool in the bar (left side of the program) You make 2 dots with the mouse (pen tool selected), you press Ctrl+click for a third one (or more) in the middle of those dots (doesn't matter how far they are) and you pull them aside to make curves. it's really easy. You just have to make an empty layer over your scanned sketch and make the line-art on it. Just remember to make the brush the size you want the lines thickness to be like. For example, for really smooth, good lines, you should select a 2 or 3 pixels size brush in the brush panel, without any transparency on the sides (a hard brush ...
