I picked this up on ebay as a sort of non working system. There was no software included, and if you have ever researched these lasers, software can be a nightmare!
The awesome thing about this laser is that is has the TopWisdom USB serial machine driver. Luckily is didn't have the Moshi board or similar which are crippled by their own software. I plugged it in to happily see that is uses an FDTI USB - Serial interface.
So I de-installed my current drivers and installed the ones that I found via Google at Yueming Laser. These guys seem to have produced lasers using the TopWisdom control, and nicely have all the software available for download.
Next was figuring out the CorelDraw Direct output. I installed CorelDraw 12 as my v11 disc was totally buggered. Next I installed the Direct output software. There seem to be a few versions of this out there. The one I got working uses Lasercarve II.
Next was the SoftDog parallel driver. I am not 100% sure I needed this, but I did get a "SoftDog Error" when Corel booted. Installation was fine. The dongle is in the parallel port.
So now for the big test. I booted Corel, and saw the new dialog for the LASERMACHINE. From here I could select com3 and load up the machines settings. Things were looking good, so I layed out some vectors, added a bitmap, and chose lasercarve II.
I now got a dialog which showed all the vectors using their colours. From here I could set speeds and power params for each colour. Very useful! I also had options for the bitmap.
Now for output, I chose com3 and hit "output". The laser sprang into life and started engraving! Then it did the vector cuts - awesome!
This is just as good as a native printer driver from western providers such as Epilog (Epilogs are totally awesome, and I hope to own one one day!), in terms of easy output from decent drawing tools.
There is also an Autocad driver which works in much the same way.
There is still allot of work to be done on my laser. I have added air assist and a red dot pointer. Next jobs are a total strip down, I don't much like the blue case so that will get a paint job. Plus most items need bolting down!
Also I need a honeycomb table platter, as I think this will help with the optimum laser focus. Without the bed I think I am too long. Also proper beam alignment needs to be done. The current setup was done quickly, so I could play with it!
