In this tutorial by James from http://www.dreamweavertutorial.co.uk we will be create a menu, a horizontal css dropdown menu to be exact.
The css menu will be complete with css hover effects whereby the drop down menu is visible only when a user hovers over the main link on the horizontal menu.
Drop down menus are derived from the original sucker fish JavaScript dropdown menus. The drop down menu in css is exactly the same but will load much quicker in a web browser which is not only good for your website visitors but is also good for your Google page rank.
The menu requires some html mark up but is easy to make with good direction (from me!)

In this Dreamweaver tutorial, we will be creating and inserting a spry horizontal menu bar for our website navigation. If you prefer a vertical spry navigation bar, you can still follow along to this tutorial.
Why Use a spry menu bar:
With web design, the golden rule is to plan ahead. As you develop your website before too long you will notice the usual navigation area (usually the width of your site) is no longer big enough to house all the links you desire to be on your website. For this reason, its a good idea to plan ahead and incorporate a spry menu which will provide you with the flexibility to add or remove links when required.
The Spry menu bar will by default initially hide your drop down menu until rolled over, this offers the space to house links that will be tucked away, keeping things neat and tidy.
Things to think about: When using any drop down menus we need to make sure we do not violate the rules of any advertisers, Google ad sense prefer not to have drop down menus popping out directly over any advertisements, so check before placing any Google ads directly below your spry menu bar.

The quality of the video may be bad, so I'll describe the process here. Create at least 2 layers, one for the buttons, one for the text. Draw a square, color is irrelevant. Convert it to a button symbol. Enter it, then Insert Keyframe under "Hit" then Delete the other three frames' content. Drag as many buttons onto the stage as you need. Arrange them to your taste. Create an empty movie clip. Drag one onto the stage for each button, and align them to the upper left corner of them. Give these different instance names (eff1, eff2...). Draw another square, same width n height as the buttons. Convert it to graphic, with upper left registration, then convert it again to a movie clip, with an export name eg. "over". Duplicate this, with an export name eg. "out". Make some animation into these 2 clips. Make the texts. Now the code for the FIRST button: on(rollOver){eff1.attachMovie("over", "eff1", "this");} on(rollOut){eff1.attachMovie("out", "eff1", "this");} On the second button it's eff2 (instead of eff1), on the third eff3 and so on. Also for the button to do something(in my example): on(release){getURL ("www.newgrounds.com", "_blank");} Have fun with it. Peace
